Jah Cure ends feud with Fantan Mojah in entertaining Sumfest set

Jah Cure and Fantan Mojah shook hands and hugged on the Reggae Sumfest stage at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay on Sunday morning, putting an end to their short-lived feud, which reportedly had at one point threatened to become violent.

During Jah Cure’s performance, the reggae singer informed audience members that he saw his “brother” Fantan Mojah backstage, and then called on Mojah to join him centre stage.

The two then shook hands and hugged, before Mojah helped Jah Cure to finish their recorded collaboration, Nuh Build Great Man.

Jah Cure would then deliver Love Is, after which Fantan Mojah sang his own hit, Hail The King, which was greeted by loud cheers of approval by the crowd. Mojah then departed the stage for Jah Cure to complete his act with Longing For and Unconditional Love.

The two had reportedly been at odds with each other since May, when it was alleged that Jah Cure attacked Mojah outside a residence of fellow artiste Capleton. Mojah took to social media afterwards to admit to an incident between the pair, but said that he held no grudges with Jah Cure.

Before that, Jah Cure had started his act with Prison Walls before doing That Girl, Call On Me, You’ll Never Find and What Will It Take.

Sean Paul and his three dancers delivered an energetic performance during the 50 minutes that he was on stage at Reggae Sumfest in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, on Sunday morning.

Entering the stage with Bum Bum, they kept the tempo going throughout until his closing song, Bounce It Right Here. His overall act picked up the longer it lasted.

After Bum Bum, Sean Paul did Get Busy and Got To Love You, Press It Up and Baby Boy, Gimme Di Light and We Be Burnin.

Like Glue would follow and then Deport Them and Gyalis Pro after which he asked the crowd to indicate by putting their hands in the air, who loves their mother. Getting the requisite response he then gave them Rockabye.

Telling the audience about and then deejaying, Gonna Be Lit Tonight , he then launched into Cheap Thrills, before calling up Chi Ching Ching for them to do their collaboration, Crick Neck, to loud cheers of approval by the Catherine Hall crowd.

Chi Ching Ching would then do a medley of dance songs with Sean Paul joining his dancers.

Gimme Di Light would follow Chi Ching Ching’s departure before She Doesn’t Mind and the closure, Bounce It Right Here.

Jahmiel Hits VH1, Gears Up For Reggae Sumfest

Published:Wednesday | July 19, 2017 | 7:00 AM

Jahmiel performing at Magnum New Rules on Saturday.

Reggae/dancehall artiste Jahmiel hits American cable television network VH1 with his single, Strongest Soldier.

Currently garnering a lot of views via his Vevo account and major radio spins worldwide, Jahmiel has been able to secure his video on VH1 for an international audience to view.

This is not the first time Jahmiel received international television recognition. Last year his video, Years To Come, was also added to BET.

Jahmiel embraced the opportunity to present his videos on such major international media outlets while thanking his team for seeking these platforms.

“When given the opportunity to share my music with a wider audience, it is definitely something I embrace and I give thanks for my team, who is always searching for those platforms,” said Jahmiel.

Upon returning to Jamaica after his performance this past weekend at AEG Live – Reggae in The Park, alongside Ziggy Marley, Beres Hammond, Capleton, Sizzla Kalonji and Culture, Jahmiel is focused on his performance at Reggae Sumfest this Friday.

“Looking forward to performing at Sumfest, as them say, ‘Our Music, Our Festival’. I am glad for the opportunity to perform this year and definitely want the people to expect a great show. I always give 150 per cent but I must say, this one is extra special, so expect 200per cent Friday night,” he said.

Set to perform with Ruff Kutt band, Jahmiel is definitely anticipating one of his better performances this year in Jamaica and look forward to showing the people his growth.

Jahmiel also recently completed recording his debut album.

Planning keeps Sumfest patrons safe — Security Manager

Kimberley Small
July 13, 2017

Robin Russell (left) has Digicel’s Olive Lawson (right) and Olivia Tate.

The incident-free nature of Reggae Sumfest is no coincidence. This is according to its security manager Robin Russell.

“Every year has its own unique issues, but what we have been able to do throughout the years is know what these issues are beforehand and put plans in place to know how to deal with them. Each year, it’s something new, but not necessarily different, and we’ve been able to put plans in place to make it happen,” Russell told THE STAR.

Reggae Sumfest, which is celebrating 25 years, starts on Sunday with a beach party and ends next Saturday with the second of two nights of stage shows.

Russell began his career as a crew member on the festival’s production team, before working his way into security. Now, he is charged with leading the security team in keeping the peace, as well as reacting to other health and safety issues that may arise.

“We pride ourselves with the reputation of securing vehicles and patrons having a safe show. We work for that and look forward to the show finishing on that note again.”

Though he has been a part of the Sumfest team for two decades, the demands of the job do not always afford Russell the opportunity to enjoy the performances.

“I don’t get the opportunity to see many acts, or be involved enough to enjoy the show, because I’m all over the place,” he said.

One of Russell’s outstanding memories occurred when one international act was all over the place.

“It was Akon’s performance. He went out from the stage. It was definitely memorable, how he performed,” Russell shared.

Akon’s exuberance posed no issue for the security team. Russell hails the collaborative support of various health and safety officials, achieved through detailed communication before, during and after the show.

“Planning is what makes us most effective; to not walk into the show and be surprised. We plan weeks, sometimes months before the show. We need the full cooperation of the entire security team. Their input is what makes the emergency plan work,” he told THE STAR.
